She made it to Manila!

Yes, I made it here in one piece! Yey!

So, I'll quickly fill you in on the last week:

My final week in Kudjip was great, despite feeling a bit under the weather. I was cooked for by a different family every night of the week which was lovely, I was certainly well fed throughout my time there! Unfortunately I didn't manage to get any babies named after me, but I did enjoy my time with Scott and I was able to help on a number of C-sections and procedures so it was a great way to end my time in the hospital. At the prayer meeting on Thursday I was given a lovely send off by everyone with lots of requests for me to return as a doctor and to bring Will along with me!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the hospital and can't describe just how much I've learnt in the past 5 weeks! It was a truly amazing experience that I will never forget. I'm so grateful to all of the doctors for making my time there so special. Despite feeling slightly uneasy about the morals of going to a developing country to 'practice' being a doctor before starting work in the UK, I have to admit that it definitely has benfited me a huge amount! When looking at the guidance for my 'reflective essay' that I have to write for uni I came across the question 'How did your time on elective compare with real life?' which I found quite amusing as if somehow suggesting that PNG is not real life! I'm pretty sure for all of the people there it is quite real! Anyway, I had a fantastic time and am thoroughly grateful to have had the opportunity to live and work there.

Yesterday morning I flew down to Port Moresby with some of the other volunteers and had a very nice afternoon lounging around the pool in a super posh hotel. It was quite bizarre leaving my little Kudjip bubble and suddenly being back in 'civilisation'. I then flew over to Manila last night and am now in the hostel. I'm booked onto a walking tour of the city in a couple of hours but unfortunately I've spent the morning throwing up so I'm going to see how I feel! I want to make sure that I'm 100% well for Will's arrival tomorrow!

I'm not sure how often I'm going to be able to keep this updated over the next 3 weeks but I will try to write something every now and again just to let you know that we are alive!

Thanks so much to everyone for the lovely comments, I do read them all! I'm glad people are enjoying the blog. The last couple of things to mention are: a very happy birthday wish to the 2 Ruths! Auntie and mother in law (almost). I hope you both have a lovely day today. AND for tomorrow a very happy mothers day my wonderful mummy. I hope you have a lovely day and that your other little girl spoils you tomorrow. Love you millions.

So that's all for now, until next time!
